Grief Services

Calvert Hospice offers bereavement services to anyone in Calvert County grieving the death of someone close, whether that person was a Hospice patient or not. Programs are available for adults, children and teens.

Adult Bereavement Programs

Drop-In Grief Support Group

For those who want the opportunity to share feelings and obtain support from others who are experiencing a loss in a flexible group format. There are no fees, and no preregistration is required.

1st and 3rd Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Burnett Calvert Hospice House located at 4559 Sixes Road, Prince Frederick.

North Beach Drop-In Group 

For those who want the opportunity to share feelings and obtain support from others who are experiencing a loss in a flexible group format. There are no fees and pre-registration is not required.

Understanding Your Grief ~ A Course on Finding Hope & Healing Your Heart

An 8-week course designed to help adults who’ve experienced the death of a loved one within the last two years. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis. The format of the course is a combined education-support group. The book Understanding Your Grief and the Understanding Your Grief Journal will be used each week. Pre-registration is required. Cost: $40 (Includes book and journal) .

The Art of Mourning ~ A Grief Art Therapy Group

You do not have to be an artist to participate! The focus of this group is on the process of grieving. It is an 8-week group tailored to adults. Pre-registration is required. Cost: $50 includes art supplies.

Other Loss Support:

Calvert Hospice is dedicated to providing resources, education, and help for our community members when they need to connect with grief services for a variety of loss experiences. Call the hospice office for more information. Staff can meet with persons to discuss their grief needs. We have a lending library. We also offer a Speaker’s Bureau and will provide a speaker for your community service organization, faith group, or employees regarding grief & loss care.

Children’s & Teen Bereavement Programs 

Bridges:

Bridges is an 7 session grief support program for children ages 6 to 12, teens ages 13 to 17, and adult family members who are grieving the death of a loved one. Children and teens are divided into age-appropriate peer groups where creative activities and discussion are used to assist with coping and healing. Adult family members learn the similarities and differences between child and adult grief and gain knowledge and skill to help support their children in grief.

Camp Phoenix:

Camp Phoenix is three-day, day camp for grieving children and teens, ages 7 to 15. This program offers every child the opportunity to express his or her feelings of grief and loss in a supportive and understanding environment. In addition to traditional camp activities, including swimming, crafts and sports, children participate in group discussions and creative activities led by professional counselors and trained volunteers.
